The Integration of Web 2.0 in Teaching-Learning in Tanzania Higher Learning Institutions: The Case of the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA)
Abstract
The emergence of new technologies has brought significant changes in teaching and learning environment in higher education institutions. One among the technologies that is being integrated in teaching and learning in higher learning institutions is Web 2.0. Web 2.0 is defined as “an increased emphasis on user generated content, data and content sharing and collaborative effort, together with the use of various kinds of social software, new ways of interacting with web-based applications, and the use of the web as a platform for generating, re-purposing and consuming content” [1]. This paper highlights how Web 2.0 such as Learning Management System (LMS), Google drive, social media that have been integrated in the teaching-learning in the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA). It also explores some findings from students based on their perception of Web 2.0 integration. Finally, it pinpoints challenges encountered during the integration and what should be done to ensure the full integration of web 2.0 at SUZA.
